A complete dispatching system using Android phones and inViu routes messenger

We have yet another inViu routes update! The saga continues with a special new messenger feature that allows employers and dispatchers to communicate with mobile workers right in the app! If you’re an inViu pro user you already know the features of the messenger plugin: you can create messages with work orders, driving destinations, and addresses and send them right to the drivers’ navigation systems. Similarly, the inViu routes messenger does exactly this, but instead of sending messages to navigation systems they go directly to the employee’s Android smartphones. App inViu routes messenger You may be asking yourself: “how is this helpful? Couldn’t you just text message the employees?” Well, aside from the fact that you are saving tons of money by using smartphones for GPS tracking instead of a costly system that requires a tracking device and a navigation system, it also opens the possibility of applying GPS tracking to all types of mobile workers – not just vehicle drivers. Let’s not forget that it also serves as a complete task, logistics, and employee management system, with backlogs and audit trails that can be exported from inViu pro, ENAiKOON’s telematics web portal. If you weren’t convinced that this is the perfect business app before, you will be now with the integrated communication system made available with the messenger plugin. Here are some of the features and benefits: Dispatching with inViu routes messenger Easy communication and task management This is the most important feature for managers. Tracking the internal communication and task delegation is key to controlling the workflow and minimising errors within a company’s operations. With inViu routes messenger, all of your staff communication and tasks will be logged in inViu pro. Having an overview of all tasks and employee locations eases the dispatching process. Clear job acceptance and verification process Employees can easily accept tasks and respond quickly using predefined, editable status texts without leaving the app. This process is streamlined so that drivers can safely and easily communicate with the dispatcher. Dispatching with inViu routes messenger Convenient routing and navigation What makes the inViu routes messenger unique is that you can send messages with an embedded destination address for specific driving jobs or location-based tasks within the app. The address will open up in the inViu routes map and further in a navigation app installed on the phone. This app would be ideal for any transport or logistics company wanting to make the switch from navigation systems to GPS tracking with smartphones. This comprehensive dispatching system only requires the use of the online software, inViu pro, and Android phones. As mentioned above, the use of smartphones makes dispatching and task delegation possible for all employees, not just for drivers. For instance, sales reps on foot can receive client location info on the go or bicycle courier companies can send all of their work orders to their employees’ mobile phones. The messenger plugin can be activated with an additional monthly subscription along with inViu pro. With the subscription, all of your mobile workers will see the new “my messages” option in the main menu of inViu routes. Download the app in Google Play or contact ENAiKOON for additional information on the messenger plugin, inViu routes, or inViu pro.

ENAiKOON and Toughshield to exhibit at Security & Policing event

This week is the Security & Policing tradeshow, UK’s only event for police, law enforcement, and security professionals. From March 11-13 2014, ENAiKOON will be exhibiting with Toughshield, a rugged mobile computing device provider. Together, we will be showcasing the benefits of telematics and NFC technology for police officers and security professionals. The combined solution using their robust mobile phones, our tracking devices, and our mobile apps will aid in improving mobile workforce management, operational efficiency, and employee security. Security guard with torch in warehouse The ENAiKOON NFC tracking solution for guard tour monitoring is a system that uses NFC tags, NFC-capable smartphones, and the inViu NFC-tracker app. A security guard going on patrol would use their smartphone to scan NFC tags mounted along their tour. The NFC tag data along with the user ID and scanned time gets transmitted to the inViu servers where management can remotely view the patrol details from any browser. Keeping an accurate audit trail is essential when it comes to building trust, not only within the organisation but with clients and other stakeholders, and this solution will allow security companies to maintain a good reputation while easily managing their guards.

As for police officers, we developed software that helps deploy police officers based on their GPS location. This technological enhancement allows them to efficiently manage their regional coverage, shorten their response times, and increase their safety. In order to better manage a police department, all the police officers need are GPS devices on their vehicles or, alternatively, smartphones with the inViu routes app. Another great use of NFC and mobile phones would be in the evidence room. ENAiKOON has a partnership with Security Bag, a patented NFC evidence bag. By identifying each piece of evidence with an NFC Security Bag, police officers are able to quickly scan the tags with their NFC-capable mobile phones to access tamper-proof data and track their chain of custody. Less time in the office means more time out on the streets! In addition, the use of smartphones is further benefited out in the field for taking pictures of witnesses, suspects, victims, and crime scenes with GPS coordinates and timestamps for easy management of evidence images.

For all solutions mentioned, using reliable mobile phones with the right features is extremely important as the stakes are high for these professions. Most modern smartphones have NFC capability, though this alone is not sufficient enough for those who work under harsh conditions. Security guards and police officers require durable devices that can withstand emergency situations, and Toughshield’s R500+ is the perfect device. Not only does it have an IP67 rating, but it resists water, dust, and other microparticles. Try dropping it 1.2 metres onto concrete – it won’t break the screen! If you’re attending the Security & Policing event in Farnborough, be sure to stop by ENAiKOON and Toughshield’s booth! We are always looking for reseller partners, so if you would like to set up a meeting with us in Farnborough, please do not hesitate to contact us. Leisure mode for mobile phones with the inViu routes GPS tracking app – great for switching between business and personal use

Leisure mode for mobile phones with the inViu routes GPS tracking app – great for switching between business and personal use We’re going to put the spotlight on one of inViu routes newest features, the leisure mode. Now with the ability to turn mobile phones into GPS tracking devices by installing the free app, it does not make sense to track the mobile phone’s movement 24 hours a day. Just how it sounds, the leisure mode allows users to use their work phone for personal use outside of working hours without being monitored. This feature creates a win-win situation for both the employer and employee as it increases efficiency in managing mobile workers and allows these workers to use one smartphone instead of carrying a separate phone for private use. inViu_routes_leisure_mode_EN Settings How it works is each mobile phone’s inViu routes settings would be configured to automatically track during the employee’s work hours. You can also import predefined leisure mode templates to save time during setup. Create several templates to easily switch between different shifts. After the desired template is selected, the employer would then lock the phone’s inViu routes settings with a security code. This way the employee cannot change the ‘auto start’ settings. Overtime A great feature of leisure mode is the extension verification message. The user can choose to extend tracking time when working overtime. This is important for companies that use the inViu timestamp as their employees’ work hours for payroll. The message appears at the end of every scheduled shift for the employee to confirm the worked hours or to extend them. Leisure mode is just one of the many updates made to inViu routes to turn it into a business-friendly tool for a cost-effective tracking system. Learn about all the other useful plugins here or download the app from Google Play.

inViu routes – the GPS app for Android is updated for even more features

The GPS tracking app with reliable GPS tracking and geofencing was designed for companies with mobile employees, for transport and logistics companies, or for vehicle or equipment rental companies More than 15,000 users have installed inViu routes on their smartphones or tablets. The app optimizes field service operations as well as centralizing and documenting the exchange of messages and of course for locating employees and assets. For the low price of € 9.90 per month with a hardware costs starting at less than € 150 makes inViu routes an indispensable tool for all companies with mobile workers. The new unveiled Version 3.9 brings a variety of useful innovations Monitor trackables right on your phone For an on-the-go overview simply enter your ENAiKOON iD in the app and all of the locations and the routes for your trackables are viewable in a sortable list with timestamps and descriptions and of course they are also viewable on the map. Route planning In addition to the route recording of your own route, the app calculates the optimal route to a specific location like a trackable, POI, GPS photo, address of a phonebook contact and also any selected position on the map. Both the start point and the destination can be freely chosen. In addition if the user has a navigation app installed on their phone then any destination, either saved or selected, can be used directly from inViu routes in the navigation app. inViu_routes_route_planner_EN Useful widgets for shortcuts to features The latest version has come up with five new widgets for faster access to certain app features. Route planner – Displays the target address, distance to target, time required to reach target, and the estimated time of arrival. Take picture – Opens the camera to take a GPS photo with the current GPS position Create POI – Creates a POI with the current GPS position Route recording toggle – Starts and stops route recording Parking spot – Clicking on this button quickly saves any location, such as your parking spot for your vehicle. View its location later in inViu routes when you need to find your vehicle. inViu_route_widgets_EN Customisable menu bar display This innovative feature allows for the designing of various screens and formats on a phone and tablet. inViu routes is the only routes app offering this level of customization A click on the app icon provides access to the main functions of the app, the icons for the features are located in one of the menu bar and can be reached by clicking on the overflow icon. Each icon can be dragged into a menu bar and removed again, the order can be changed at any time. You can choose between one or two menu bars, with or without displaying the icons info as well as defining where main features of the app are accessed. If you want to use your own icons, you can replace it with a long click on any icon. For example it makes more sense to display the menu bar horizontally in landscape mode and vertically in portrait mode. Since a tablet is held with two hands the menu bar with access to all important features can be at the bottom of the screen while for a smaller phone it is more useful to have access at the top of the screen. inViu_route_menu_bar_EN GPS power saving mode Now the app can define the time between two GPS readings in order to lengthen battery life. The GPS power saving mode can be deactivated while charging or above defined battery percentage. Leisure mode Great for businesses that employ mobile workers, this feature allows the GPS tracking of employees during working hours only. This way the mobile phone can be used for both work and personal use. More details on this special feature in a subsequent blog post! View all of these updates by downloading the latest version of inViu routes on Google Play! Contact ENAiKOON for more information on how to use inViu routes for business.

GPS Android App for All of Your GPS Info: inViu GPS-details

There are many GPS apps available in Google Play, but do they all have the features you’re looking for? Navigation apps do not include detailed GPS data, nor do they show satellite information. How can GPS fans determine their GPS accuracy, check cardinal direction, and locate themselves with precise coordinates? Luckily there’s inViu GPS-details. It’s a light-weight app with all the GPS info you need. Although it’s free, it comes with no ads and includes all the premium features one would look for in a GPS app. Great for GPS and outdoor enthusiasts, extreme sport athletes, geocachers, runners, and cyclists, finding satellites and determining GPS location, accuracy, and speed are made easy with this Android app. The recent update to the app has created new features that improve the User Interface (UI) dramatically. GPS-details_EN_1 Here are the app’s main features: Localisation The app accurately displays your current GPS position as a decimal value. It also shows your GPS coordinates as longitude and latitude. Other useful information can be viewed on the new info screen, which includes altitude, GPS time, sunrise/sunset, angle, quality of GPS, and speed. Satellite Information Two different graphs display all available satellites and their signal strength with a numerical value. The radar screen shows the positions of the satellites with their satellite number in a visual manner, whereas the Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) diagram allows a quick comparison of satellite strengths. Satellite reception accuracy is indicated in either metres or feet. GPS-details_EN_2 Speedometer and Built-in Compass Use the speedometer to determine speeds up to 1,200 km/h (750 mph). The speedometer scale can be customised depending on the range of speed you are working with (ie. when running, in a car, or on a plane). The new “digital screen” displays the current speed in night or day mode, making it extremely useful for runners and cyclists to determine their speed any time of day. The built-in compass clearly displays the cardinal direction with the option to keep either the compass or the needle static. GPS Playback The new “demo mode” allows users to record a specific time frame’s GPS data and play it back at a later time. This feature is great for skydivers, hang gliders, and other extreme sport athletes who cannot observe the GPS data while in action. You may think that all of this GPS data would look very technical, but inViu GPS-details does a great job displaying all the info with an attractive design that’s easy to read and comprehend. Now available in English, French, German, Russian, and Spanish, it also supports imperial and metric measuring systems. For more information and download, visit Google Play.

Facility Management with NFC and Android Phones

Remember when security guards used to call for backup on handheld transceivers? An alarming number of security companies still use them for communication during guard patrols. Why use these ancient devices when we have NFC-enabled, multi-purpose, and affordable smartphones in the market? Conveniently, there are now telematics solutions specifically for managing mobile workers using these smartphones together with NFC – an ideal system for facility management and guard tours. NFC is something we have discussed previously as a technology that is being rapidly absorbed by the tech community. ENAiKOON_Guardtour So how is it used for guard patrols? It’s simple. Equip each guard with an NFC-capable smartphone, used to swipe NFC tags located at checkpoints, destinations, and rooms on patrol routes. When these tags are scanned using inViu NFC-tracker, the data from the tag, along with the GPS timestamp, is sent to our servers in real time. This data can be viewed and analysed via our telematics software, inViu pro, for effective monitoring. You can even turn these smartphones into GPS devices by installing the inViu routes app, making it easier to locate your guards in case of emergency. inViu NFC Tracker A mobile security services provider recently switched to the ENAiKOON guard tour monitoring system, dramatically changing the way they perform their patrols. Bergische Security from Solingen, Germany, used to use a system that required wands that read barcodes. The company faced many inconveniences with the old system, having to collect the wands after each shift to upload the data. It also failed to provide real-time locations of the guards and could not read the barcodes under poor weather conditions. When replacement parts were needed, they were expensive as the parts were only exclusively available from one supplier. These challenges made Bergische Security search for a new solution. Once ENAiKOON’s solution was implemented, the wands were replaced with NFC-capable smartphones, improving the communication between the dispatcher and guards. Guard-tour data is now transmitted in real time and viewed immediately by Bergische Security and their clients. The supplier-neutral replacement parts have helped the company find affordable replacements with ease. “The ENAiKOON system is more affordable compared to our previous system and other industry-specific solutions, for both the initial package and the running costs,” says Evelyn Neuhaus, the assistant managing director of Bergische Security. “Moreover, with the exception of the software, ENAiKOON’s system is supplier neutral, only requiring off-the-shelf, NFC-capable Android smartphones. The permanent data transmission and localisation of the devices are big advantages. If checkpoints are missed, we immediately receive an alert message. When security guards require assistance, we know their location instantly. When we have special requests, we can send the nearest security guard. Other big advantages are the ability to use a combination of different tools on one smartphone as well as the flexibility that we gain with the system.” Having an inexpensive yet effective and efficient guard tour system has optimised Bergische Security’s operations. With improved communication, guard performance, overall safety, and productivity, the company now experiences more transparent partnerships with their clients. For further information or a free trial kit of the system, contact ENAiKOON at sales@enaikoon.com.

GPS and its impact in the world today

It was not so long ago that we used paper maps to navigate, yet today we use our phones for everything – including navigation. It’s hard to imagine a world without our maps application or navigation system. How did we become so dependent on this GPS technology? Why is GPS so important in our lives? GPS-details-EN Before we dissect GPS’s role in the world today, let’s talk about what exactly GPS is and how it works. The Global Positioning System (GPS) is actually run by the US Department of Defence, a project that started in 1973 in search of a better navigation system. Originally developed for military use, the system consists of 24 satellites travelling 19,300 km above the earth in controlled orbits twice a day. These satellites are built to last 10 years and are replaced after this time by a new one that gets launched into orbit. To access GPS data one must use a GPS receiver. The receiver must be locked onto the signal of at least three satellites to calculate a 2D position (latitude and longitude) and have the ability to track movement. With four or more satellites, the receiver can determine a user’s altitude, making it a 3D position. This process of locating is called trilateration, where the intersection of three sphere surfaces determines a user’s location. GPS can determine location, velocity, time, speed, bearing, trip distance, distance to destination, sunrise, and sunset. Satellit2_blau As you can see, this wealth of information has benefited countless industries, such as transport, logistics, construction, security, government, mining, and waste management, just to name a few. The ability to track mobile objects in real time has improved productivity across the board. Sectors that use vehicles and machinery benefit the most, with GPS devices being able to transmit data regarding vehicle condition and CAN-bus. Fuel consumption and fuel theft can both be controlled using the right accessories and software. Being able to select the most efficient routes for driving jobs and analyse driving behaviour has helped companies save on fuel costs, which account for a huge portion of operating expenses. GPS has unquestionably made a strong impact on how people run businesses, but it also equally influenced how people live. Our cars now have built-in navigation systems. We use our smartphones for directions while travelling. We ask our phones where the nearest restaurant is. It tells us where our friends are. Our pets can now be tracked and located when lost. GPS receivers are indispensable tools for geocaching and OSM mapping. As more uses come out of this technology, the more dependent we become and the more trust we have in GPS. That being said, this trust can be dangerous for some. People from all around the world have experienced GPS errors and navigation disasters. See how some have driven into a lake, bay, house, cliff, park, and sand pit. What one can do to avoid such situations is to evaluate the GPS accuracy of one’s current position. As mentioned earlier, GPS positioning requires the presence of at least three to four satellites. This can be determined using handheld GPS receivers or convenient smartphone apps. inViu GPS details is a free Android app that shows the satellites in orbit, GPS accuracy, cardinal direction, compass, GPS time, and current location. When using GPS, let’s try to use our eyes and trust in solid data before driving into situations that can be easily dodged. These mishaps are rare cases, and for the most part, GPS has proven its value for both private and business use. If you’re looking to enhance your business with GPS, contact ENAiKOON or check the list of case studies to see if there’s a solution for your industry. Otherwise, if you want to have a little fun by turning your phone into a complete GPS receiver or GPS tracking device, explore our free Android apps.
