The OSM map data is an important part of our software.
Many of our customers use maps on a daily basis in deploying their fleets to best effect.
The map data from OpenStreetMap can be easily extended to match your own needs. Even if the new industrial or residential zone is not yet entered on the maps currently in use, but you still would like to uniquely identify the vehicles' positions in it, it is easy to map and feed in the data yourself. See the OSM wiki for information about mapping.
A short time later the route will run along a road and not merely through unnamed terrain.
